W. O Stamps Family

The W.O Stamps family established a dynasty of gospel music from Upshur County. The Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Company of Dallas has been called the post around which the story of 20th century community gospel music basically revolved. It was founded in 1924 by V. O. Stamps of the Stamps community in Upshur County. He and his brother Frank, both shown in the picture as children, made up half of the Stamps-Baxter Quartet. In July of each year, the Stamps brothers held a well-attended School of Singing at Gilmer High School.
