The Dickson Orphans Home

The Orphans Home on the south side of Gilmer founded by the Reverend W.
L. Dixon was the only home for Negro orphans in the State of Texas until
1929. The institution opened its doors in 1900 and deeded its 27 buildings
and 700 acres to the state. The excellent choir made tours to raise money
for the orphanage.
