The African American Heritage Project (AAHP) is a joint venture between the Department of History, The Center for East Texas Studies (CETS) at Stephen F. Austin State University, and the Black Heritage Association of Nacogdoches. Its main purpose is to research and bring into the public domain, knowleadge of the life and culture of the African American community of Nacogdoches. The AAHP is comprised of individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds in the Nacogdoches academic and non-academic community. The AAHP needs your help in gathering and preserving the African American heritage of Nacogdoches County. This organization is new, and we need people with special talents or just an eager spirit to contribute to locating and compilating pictures, artifacts, and histories. Stephen F. Austin State University. AAHP meeting on November 11,
1999. The end of the first year of work - reported
at the meeting - was a major triumph for the
organization. The foundations for the second year's
activities were laid at this same
meeting.
